Paintless Dent Repair technicians
December 7, 2009Paintless dent repair technicians are able to make your minor dings, dents and creases disappear in a matter of minutes, Even though it takes them such little time and it may seem relatively easy, that is not so, the technician is a trained professional. A trained paintless dent repair technician will do a professional course fro mainly a six month period, however extensive on the job training with supervision is also covered; this usually takes about another six months to a year to really be considered skilled.
In order to perform a paintless dent repair, the technician will have to be able to access the dent from the inside, learning where and how to gain access to a dent within a panel is also something that the technicians have to learn. Motor vehicles have changed and is changing with time, so a technician have to be aware of different access points in different model cars, also the type of material that is used to make that car plays a part, this will help to decide which particular paintless dent repair tool to use.
The tools that are used for paintless dent repair varies, even though they all serve one main purpose, which is to gain access to the dent and be able to massage the dent out until the panel is completely aligned and the dent is gone. Tools will include metal rods and pricks, some with different ends that can be bent this way and that, to gain access to the centre of the dent. In addition to the tools used a fluorescent light is also required when performing paintless dent repair, this casts a shadow on the dent when set at a particular angle and the technician can also see his tool beneath the surface of the dent and be better able to manoeuvre the tool around the dented area to remove all aspects of the dent.

The area that is damaged will play a great part on hw it accessed and the time it takes to access it, most panels have more than one way in, depending on the car, the technician will choose the path that requires less “pulling down” and try to avoid working through a brace if possible. The hood and the roof, usually as only one way in and that usually includes taking off the padding from the panels in the roof and anything coving the panel under the hood.
If it do happens however that access is impossible from the inside of the panel, some technicians may opt to drill a small inconspicuous hole in the side of the panel , this hole will be plugged up at the end of the procedure and is never usually noticeable. If your paintless dent repair is done by a professional, no one will be able to tell that work was done on the car and if drilling was necessary, only the small black plug should be an indication.
